Historique
EQT Corporation was founded in 1888 and is headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was formerly known as Equitable Resources Inc. and changed its name to EQT Corporation in February 2009; its shares were listed in an IPO dated November 5, 1987. The company has expanded substantially through acquisitions and structural transactions: it completed the consolidation of Equitrans Midstream, integrated Tug Hill/XcL, and in 2025 closed the Olympus acquisition, adding roughly 90,000 net acres and about 0.5 Bcf per day of net production. At the end of 2024 it contributed certain midstream assets and a portion of its Mountain Valley Pipeline interest into a joint venture with a Blackstone Credit & Insurance affiliate, which invested 3.5 billion dollars. These deals drove shares outstanding from 377.4 million at year-end 2021 to 624.1 million at year-end 2025, an increase of about 65%. Toby Rice has served as president and CEO since 2019, with CFO Jeremy Knop and several core executives carrying a Rice Energy background.
Position dans le secteur
EQT defines itself as a vertically integrated natural gas company centered on the Appalachian Basin, organized into three reporting segments: Upstream, Gathering, and Transmission. At year-end 2025 it reported proved reserves of 28.0 Tcfe (28,046 Bcfe), of which 93% is located in the Marcellus, alongside about 2,945 miles of pipeline infrastructure and an interest in the Mountain Valley Pipeline. Its 2025 consolidated operating revenues were 8.644 billion dollars, split among Upstream at 8.024 billion, Gathering at 1.301 billion, and Transmission at 0.572 billion, reflecting a combined model of selling gas plus selling pipeline capacity and services. The company's competitive position rests on low cost, scale, asset continuity across the upstream and midstream platform, and infrastructure coupling rather than brand or customer lock-in; it pursues a leading low-cost producer strategy supported by high-proportion Marcellus reserves and combo-development. As a commodity producer it is a natural gas price taker without product pricing power. Named regional peers include Expand, Antero, Range, and Coterra.
