Historique
Jacobs Solutions Inc. (Jacobs) was founded in 1947 and is headquartered in Dallas, Texas; it completed its IPO on January 12, 1990. Over the past decade the company has reshaped its portfolio away from traditional heavy-construction contracting toward higher-value consulting, design, project management, and advanced-facilities solutions: it sold its ECR business in 2019, acquired a 65% controlling stake in PA Consulting in 2021, spun off its CMS/C&I business and merged it with Amentum in 2024, and acquired the remaining PA Consulting stake in 2026. The 2026 PA acquisition carried an initial consideration of about £1.21 billion, paid in cash and 2,043,537 newly issued Jacobs shares, with an additional £75 million of deferred consideration due in 2028. By fiscal 2025 the company operated two continuing-operations segments—Infrastructure & Advanced Facilities (I&AF) and PA Consulting—with continuing-operations revenue of $12.03 billion (I&AF $10.764 billion and PA $1.266 billion) and roughly 47,000 employees. Bob Pragada, who joined the company in 2006, has served as CEO since 2023 and became Chairman in 2024.
Position dans le secteur
Jacobs operates in the professional engineering, consulting, design, and project-management industry, positioned in its higher-quality segment rather than low-bid construction contracting. It ranked No. 1 on ENR's 2026 Top 500 Design Firms list, ahead of AECOM (No. 2), Tetra Tech (No. 3), and WSP (No. 4), and held the No. 2 spot on the 2025 ENR list, indicating a sustained top-tier position. Its principal peers include AECOM, Tetra Tech, WSP, and Parsons. The company serves national, state, and local governments and large private enterprises, with end markets spanning water and environment, transport, critical infrastructure, life sciences, advanced manufacturing, and energy security; through the second quarter of fiscal 2026 management cited data centers, semiconductors, water, energy and power, and transport as the main drivers of I&AF growth. Sources of competitive advantage are factual rather than monopolistic—scale (about 47,000 staff, roughly $12 billion of continuing-operations revenue, and multi-region capability), reputation and delivery track record, complex-project delivery capability, long-term client relationships, framework agreements, qualifications, and switching costs that make it non-trivial for governments and large enterprises to change primary suppliers on long-cycle, complex programs. U.S. federal-government-related backlog was about $2.2 billion in fiscal 2025 (9.5% of total backlog) and about $2.4 billion in fiscal 2024 (11.1%), making the federal government an important but not dominant client group. Total backlog reached $26.965 billion at the end of the second quarter of fiscal 2026.
