Historique

Pentair plc was founded in 1966 and is headquartered in London, the United Kingdom, with an IPO date of May 3, 1973. It provides water solutions across the United States, Western Europe, China, Latin America, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Australia, and Canada, and employs about 9,000 people. The company operates through three segments: Flow, Water Solutions, and Pool. Acquisitions have been part of its growth, including the 2022 purchase of Manitowoc Ice, after which long-term debt rose and was then reduced from $2.317 billion at the end of 2022 to $1.639 billion at the end of 2025. Following a 2025 reclassification, Flow, Water Solutions, and Pool contributed roughly 24%, 39%, and 37% of sales respectively; beginning in 2026 the company moved its residential and irrigation flow business from Flow into Water Solutions to align more closely with residential and distribution customers, and a 2026 organizational change consolidated the three businesses under the existing Flow and Water Solutions leadership after the Pool segment's prior head departed. In 2026 the company is set to raise its dividend for the 50th consecutive year.

Position dans le secteur

Pentair is positioned as a water treatment and water-related equipment maker spanning fluid treatment and pumps (Flow), commercial and residential water treatment and filtration (Water Solutions), and pool equipment and accessories (Pool). It sells primarily to end-user-related businesses, wholesale and retail distributors, OEMs, and some end consumers through equipment, accessory, and replacement-part sales rather than long-term subscriptions. The company identifies its competitive strengths in distribution channels and reputation for quality, supported by recognized brands such as Pentair, Everpure, Fleck, Manitowoc Ice, Pentair Pool, Pleatco, Kreepy Krauly, and Sta-Rite, alongside its installed base, breadth of products, replacement-part demand, and the Pentair Business System. Demand is anchored by long-term U.S. water and wastewater infrastructure needs, with the EPA's 2023 update estimating about $625 billion in drinking-water infrastructure needs over 20 years, while the Pool business is more cyclical and tied to housing, channel inventory, and weather. Pentair has demonstrated pricing power, raising prices to offset inflation in recent years. About 30% of its sales come from outside the United States. Comparable public companies cited include A.O. Smith, Watts Water, Xylem, Hayward, and Franklin Electric, and the company has acknowledged that several of its markets contain competitors with greater resources.
