Historique

Smurfit WestRock plc traces its roots to 1934 and is headquartered in Dublin, Ireland. By 2025 it employed about 97,000 people and reported net sales of $31.179 billion, operating a vertically integrated network of mills and converting plants: 27 mills, 152 corrugated plants, and 37 consumer-packaging plants in North America; 21 mills, 179 corrugated facilities, and 40 consumer-packaging plants in Europe/MEA/APAC; and 9 mills and 27 corrugated plants in Latin America.

Position dans le secteur

Smurfit WestRock is one of the world's large paper-based packaging companies, serving food and beverage, healthcare, beauty and personal care, garden, consumer goods, industrial, and foodservice markets. In 2025 North America accounted for 58.5% of external revenue, Europe/MEA/APAC for 34.8%, and Latin America for 6.7%. The company describes itself as a North American paper and packaging leader holding #1 or #2 positions in its core North American segments, the #1 position in corrugated, containerboard, and bag-in-box across EMEA/APAC, and the #1 regional corrugated supplier in Latin America. Its competitive position rests on a vertically integrated mill-and-plant system, internal paper supply to downstream converting plants, a recovered-fiber sourcing and recycling system, and large regional networks with local sales teams that provide cost and service-radius advantages. Replicating an integrated network spanning North America, Europe, and Latin America would require many years, billions of dollars of capital, environmental permits, customer onboarding, fiber sourcing, and regional organizational capability. Named competitors include International Paper, Packaging Corporation of America, Graphic Packaging, and the European-oriented Mondi and DS Smith; Packaging Corporation of America describes itself as the third-largest North American producer of containerboard and corrugated products, and International Paper describes itself as a global leader in sustainable packaging solutions.
