연혁

Ball Corporation was founded in 1880 and is headquartered in Westminster, Colorado. It went public on September 7, 1984, and employs about 16,000 people. After selling its aerospace business, Ball became a pure aluminum packaging company centered on aluminum beverage cans and related aluminum packaging. It reports through three geographic segments — North & Central America, EMEA, and South America — plus a smaller "Other" segment that includes beverage can capacity in India and Myanmar as well as extruded aluminum aerosol containers, recloseable aluminum bottles, aluminum cups, and aluminum slugs. In 2025, North & Central America accounted for 48% of revenue, EMEA 30%, and South America 16%, while the "Other" business generated about $730 million. Over 2021–2025 the diluted weighted-average share count fell from 331.6 million to 276.0 million, a decline of roughly 17%, as the company repurchased stock and focused on its core packaging business; 2025 revenue was $13.161 billion.

업계 내 위치

Ball is one of the leading global aluminum beverage can producers. In 2025 it shipped about 50 billion cans in North & Central America (roughly 36% of regional shipments), about 38 billion in EMEA (estimated ~39% share), and about 20 billion in South America (estimated ~46% share), with total aluminum packaging shipments of 111.9 billion units. The industry is an oligopoly: in North & Central America five companies produce the large majority of aluminum beverage cans, with Ball the largest regional player, while EMEA and South America each approach a structure where about four companies cover most of the market. The supply side is also concentrated — North America is served by more than seven global aluminum sheet suppliers, EMEA relies on about six, and South America on about two. Aluminum made up over 96% of the beverage can market in 2025, and the US aluminum beverage can recycling rate was 43% in 2023, higher than glass and PET. Ball's competitive position rests on factual sources of advantage rather than brand or network effects: scale and leading regional share, local manufacturing networks that deliver consistent cross-region supply to large customers, and customer certification and switching costs tied to can design, filling-line compatibility, and supply continuity. Its main metal-packaging peers are Crown Holdings and Silgan, with Ardagh Metal Packaging a more highly leveraged competitor. Customer concentration is high: in 2025 its three largest customers were AB InBev (15%), the Coca-Cola bottling system (14%), and Red Bull (11%), together about 40% of revenue.
