The Safety & Productivity segment delivers tools for professionals and homeowners that support infrastructure, promote safety, and enhance productivity under the Greenlee, Klauke, ProTeam, and RIDGID brands. The Control Systems & Software segment provides control systems and software that control plant processes by collecting and analyzing information from measurement devices in the plant under the DeltaV and Ovation brands. The Test & Measurement offers software-connected automated test and measurement systems. The company was incorporated in 1890 and is headquartered in Saint Louis, Missouri.

Over the past several years it reshaped its portfolio toward automation and industrial software: in 2023 it sold its majority stake in Copeland (formerly Climate Technologies) and acquired National Instruments for about USD 8.2 billion in equity value, and in 2025 it acquired the remaining AspenTech shares it did not already own for about USD 7.2 billion. Effective fiscal 2026, Emerson reorganized into five reporting segments grouped into three business groups: Software & Systems, Intelligent Devices, and Safety & Productivity.
