연혁

Eversource Energy is a public utility holding company that was incorporated in 1927 and is headquartered in Springfield, Massachusetts. It was formerly known as Northeast Utilities and changed its name to Eversource Energy in April 2015. The company conducts its energy delivery business through four reportable segments: Electric Distribution, Electric Transmission, Natural Gas Distribution, and Water Distribution, operating across Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire through fully owned regulated subsidiaries including CL&P, NSTAR Electric, PSNH, Yankee Gas, NSTAR Gas, EGMA, and Aquarion. In recent years the company has been refocusing on its core regulated utility business, gradually exiting higher-risk offshore wind and seeking to sell Aquarion. By 2025 it reported revenue of $13.547 billion and roughly 7 regulated subsidiaries, employing about 10,731 people.

업계 내 위치

Eversource Energy describes itself as the largest energy delivery system in New England, serving approximately 4.6 million customers, of which about 3.486 million were electric, roughly 897,000 natural gas, and about 249,000 water customers at the end of 2025. The company reports a rate base of about $35 billion and total assets of about $64 billion, and it operates roughly 4,500 miles of transmission lines and 59,900 miles of distribution lines, with a transmission rate base of approximately $11.3 billion at the end of 2025. Its electric, gas, and water networks are natural-monopoly infrastructure within defined service territories, regulated by state regulators and FERC, and competitors cannot freely build a parallel network to enter those areas. On bulk electricity and natural gas commodity costs, Eversource largely passes purchased power, gas, and transmission costs through to customers; its annual report states that the default and standard service offerings of CL&P, NSTAR Electric, and PSNH supply procured power to customers "without a profit or loss to us." The company plans capital expenditures of $26.51 billion over 2026-2030 to support electric and gas distribution, electric transmission, and IT and facilities upgrades.
