Formerly named Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc., it changed its name to Freeport-McMoRan Inc. in July 2014. In 2015 it recorded a large impairment tied to oil and gas assets, posting a full-year net loss attributable to the parent of about USD 12.2 billion. In June 2024 Kathleen Quirk became CEO while Richard Adkerson continued as Chairman, and in 2026 the company signed an MOU with the Indonesian government extending PT-FI's Grasberg operating rights over the life of the resource.
