It also provides consumer credit; services to third-party brands, including websites, marketing, warehousing, distribution networks, and contact centers; and property management, which holds and leases properties. The company operates through retail stores, online retail platforms, and franchise stores. The company was formerly known as J Hepworth & Son and changed its name to NEXT plc in 1986. NEXT plc was founded in 1864 and is headquartered in Enderby, the United Kingdom.

Management raised guidance for the year to January 2027 to £1.243 billion, though £10 million of the £25 million upgrade came from investments rather than retail, and Total Platform services earned only £16.9 million.
