Geschichte
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (TSMC) is a platform manufacturer built on a pure-play wafer foundry model, complemented by advanced packaging, testing, and mask/design ecosystem services. It does not design or sell own-brand chips, instead manufacturing to customers' proprietary designs and therefore not competing with them. Its principal management and most core production facilities are located in Taiwan, alongside operations such as a fab in Nanjing, China. Since 2024, C.C. Wei has served as both Chairman and CEO.
Branchenposition
TSMC is the global leader in advanced logic foundry and advanced packaging, holding an estimated 67.6%-70.4% share of the pure-play foundry market versus roughly 7.1% for Samsung's foundry. In 2025 it served 534 customers across 12,682 products, posted revenue of NT$3.81 trillion, and operated capacity exceeding 17 million 12-inch equivalent wafers, with processes at 7nm and below making up 74% of wafer revenue. Its strongest competitor is Samsung's foundry, with Intel Foundry a longer-term challenger, while UMC, GlobalFoundries, and SMIC hold positions in mature nodes.
