Occidental Petroleum Corporation, together with its subsidiaries, engages in the acquisition, exploration, and development of oil and gas properties in the United States and internationally. It operates through Oil and Gas and Midstream and Marketing. The Oil and Gas segment explores for, develops, and produces oil and condensate, natural gas liquids (NGLs), and natural gas. This segment also optimizes its transportation and storage capacity and invests in entities. The Midstream and Marketing segment purchases, markets, gathers, processes, transports and stores oil, condensate, NGLs, natural gas, carbon dioxide, and power. Occidental Petroleum Corporation was founded in 1920 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas.

Geschichte

Occidental Petroleum Corporation was founded in 1920 and went public via an IPO dated December 31, 1981. To finance its acquisition of Anadarko, the company brought Berkshire's high-cost preferred stock and accompanying warrants into its capital structure. In 2024 it completed the CrownRock acquisition, which significantly lifted 2025 production, and in early 2026 it divested OxyChem, a move that recognized discontinued-operations gains and shifted historical versus future reporting bases.

Branchenposition

Headquartered in Houston, Texas, Occidental is one of the major US upstream oil and gas producers, operating through Oil and Gas and Midstream and Marketing segments (which also houses Oxy Low Carbon Ventures) and selling oil and condensate, NGLs, natural gas, carbon dioxide, and power. Its assets span the Permian, DJ, and Gulf of America basins plus Algeria, Oman, Qatar, and the UAE, with 2025 proved reserves of about 4.603 billion BOE and total sales near 1.434 million BOE/day, of which the Permian contributed about 786,000 BOE/day, roughly 10% of all Permian basin crude. Its peers include EOG and ConocoPhillips, as well as the larger, more diversified Exxon and Chevron.
