It operates off-price retail stores under the Ross Dress for Less and dd's DISCOUNTS brands. During FY2025 the company opened its eighth distribution center. James G. Conroy became CEO in February 2025, having previously worked at Boot Barn and Claire's.

It employs about 111,000 people and over 800 merchandisers. Its main off-price competitors are TJX (FY2026 sales $60.4 billion, 5,214 stores) and Burlington (FY2025 sales $11.5 billion, 1,212 stores); in NRF's 2025 US retailer ranking, TJX placed 15th, Ross 25th, and Burlington 47th.
