History
Siemens was founded in 1847 by Werner von Siemens in Berlin, starting out in telegraph machines, and was registered as the joint-stock company Siemens AG in 1922; it is headquartered in Munich, Germany. After a diversification peak from 1989 to 1999, the group divested non-core businesses between 2007 and 2014 and spun off Siemens Energy via IPO in March 2020. In March 2025 it completed the USD 10.6 billion acquisition of Altair and acquired Dotmatics for about USD 5.1 billion, and in November 2025 it announced a plan to deconsolidate and spin off Siemens Healthineers.
