The company was formerly known as BB&T Corporation and changed its name to Truist Financial Corporation in December 2019. Truist Financial Corporation was founded in 1872 and traces its public listing to an IPO dated March 26, 1990. The company was formerly known as BB&T Corporation; it took its current form through the merger of BB&T and SunTrust and changed its name to Truist Financial Corporation in December 2019. It is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina. The company has also reshaped its business mix, including the sale of its TIH insurance business.
