Visa is one of the world's largest open payment networks. In fiscal 2025 it operated in over 200 countries and territories, connecting roughly 12 billion cards, accounts, and digital wallets and more than 175 million merchant acceptance points across about 14,500 financial institutions, with total payments and cash volume of around 17 trillion US dollars. Its most direct competitor is Mastercard: 2025 Visa card purchase volume was about 7.028 trillion US dollars versus Mastercard's roughly 2.958 trillion. Assets such as Tink, Currencycloud, Pismo, and Prisma extend it toward open banking and account-to-account infrastructure.
