The company operates through Upstream, Energy Products, Chemical Products, and Specialty Products segments. Its Upstream segment explores for and produces crude oil and natural gas. The Energy Products segment offers fuels, aromatics, and catalysts, as well as licensing services. Its Chemical Products segment manufactures and sells olefins, polyolefins, and intermediates. The Specialty Products segment offers finished lubricants, basestocks, waxes, synthetics, elastomers, and resins. It is also involved in the manufacture, trade, transport, and sale of crude oil, natural gas, petroleum products, petrochemicals, and other specialty products; and pursuit of lower-emission and business opportunities, including carbon capture and storage, hydrogen, lower-emission fuels, Proxxima resin systems, carbon materials, low-carbon data center, and lithium. In addition, the company offers aviation fuel. It sells its products under the Exxon, Esso, and Mobil brands. The company was formerly known as Exxon Mobil Corporation and changed its name to ExxonMobil Holdings Corporation in July 2026. In 2023 it completed the acquisition of Denbury, gaining about 1,300 miles of CO2 pipeline and 10 onshore storage sites, and in 2024 it completed the acquisition of Pioneer, adding 850,000+ net acres in the Midland Basin and over 2 billion barrels of oil equivalent of proved reserves. It has extended its streak of annual dividend increases to 43 consecutive years.

Exxon Mobil defines itself as a large global integrated energy company and states it is one of the world's largest downstream and chemical companies, with the largest CO2 pipeline network in the United States. In 2025 its net production reached 4.7 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, its highest in more than 40 years, with Permian output around 1.6 million BOE/d and Guyana over 700,000 b/d; advantaged assets such as Permian, Guyana, and LNG made up 59% of 2025 production. Its 2030 production target is about 5.5 million BOE/d, roughly 30% higher than its nearest IOC competitor.
