With its subsidiaries it engages in automobiles and batteries across mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and internationally, operating two segments: mobile handset components and assembly services, and automobiles and related products. By 2025 it was heavily focused on new energy vehicles, with autos and related products at roughly 80.68% of revenue and mobile handset components about 19.31%. It employs about 869,600 people.

BYD ranked first in global new energy vehicle sales for four consecutive years, selling about 4.6 million vehicles in 2025 across 119 countries and regions; overseas sales reached 1.046 million units, vehicle exports topped one million for the first time, and it placed top-three in several overseas markets. Its main advantage is vertical integration: via its e-Platform 3.0, a Blade Battery used as a structural component and an 8-in-1 powertrain, it develops and produces core batteries, motors and electronic controls in-house, backed by more than 120,000 R&D engineers. Competitors include Tesla, integrated Chinese groups such as Geely, and Chinese new-force and premium intelligent rivals.
