Its Automobiles and Related Products and Other Products segment is involved in the manufacturing and sale of automobiles, and auto-related molds and components; provision of automobile leasing and after sales services, automobile power batteries, lithium-ion batteries, photovoltaic, and iron battery products; and rail transport and related business. The company develops urban rail transportation business. BYD Company Limited was founded in 1994 and is headquartered in Shenzhen, China.

By 2025 it was heavily focused on new energy vehicles, with autos and related products at roughly 80.68% of revenue and mobile handset components about 19.31%. It employs about 869,600 people.

BYD ranked first in global new energy vehicle sales for four consecutive years, selling about 4.6 million vehicles in 2025 across 119 countries and regions; overseas sales reached 1.046 million units, vehicle exports topped one million for the first time, and it placed top-three in several overseas markets. Its main advantage is vertical integration: via its e-Platform 3.0, a Blade Battery used as a structural component and an 8-in-1 powertrain, it develops and produces core batteries, motors and electronic controls in-house, backed by more than 120,000 R&D engineers.
