沿革

Huntington Bancshares Incorporated, the bank holding company for The Huntington National Bank, was founded in 1866 and is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio; it conducted its IPO on March 26, 1990 and employs about 24,641 people. The company is a multi-state regional bank whose scale has expanded substantially through acquisitions including TCF, Veritex, and Cadence. By the end of 2025 it operated more than 1,000 branches across 14 states; after completing the Cadence acquisition in February 2026, its branch count rose to nearly 1,400 across 21 states, and total assets grew from roughly 223 billion USD to about 285 billion USD following the Veritex and Cadence deals (the Veritex transaction alone involved issuance of about 107 million new shares). From 2019 to 2025, revenue grew from 4.693 billion to 8.231 billion USD and net income attributable to common from 1.411 billion to 2.211 billion USD, while period-end assets rose from 109.0 billion to 225.11 billion USD, loans from 75.40 billion to 149.64 billion USD, and deposits from 82.35 billion to 176.61 billion USD.

業界での地位

Huntington operates as a regional bank holding company providing commercial, consumer, and mortgage banking services, organized into two segments: Consumer & Regional Banking and Commercial Banking. In 2025 Consumer & Regional Banking earned net income of 1.462 billion USD and Commercial Banking earned 1.125 billion USD, while Treasury/Other recorded a loss of 376 million USD. Its franchise spans the Midwest and, following the Veritex and Cadence acquisitions, extended into Texas and the South, growing its footprint from 14 to 21 states. The company's relative strengths rest on factors such as low-cost core deposits, regional and small-business relationships, auto and dealer finance, a regulated banking charter, and multi-product cross-selling. Named competitors fall into three groups: larger super-regional banks such as PNC and U.S. Bancorp; direct regional peers such as Fifth Third, Regions, and KeyCorp; and fintech companies and stablecoins, which Huntington itself cites among new competitive sources in payments, transfers, deposits, and consumer finance.
