Cheniere Energy, Inc., an energy infrastructure company, primarily engages in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) related businesses in the United States. The company owns and operates the Sabine Pass LNG terminal in Cameron Parish, Louisiana; and the Corpus Christi LNG terminal near Corpus Christi, Texas. It also owns and operates the Creole Trail pipeline, a 94-mile natural gas supply pipeline that interconnects the Sabine Pass LNG Terminal with several large interstate and intrastate pipelines; and the Corpus Christi pipeline, a 21-mile natural gas supply pipeline that interconnects the Corpus Christi LNG terminal with interstate and intrastate natural gas pipelines. In addition, the company engages in the LNG and natural gas marketing business. Cheniere Energy, Inc. was incorporated in 1983 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas.

沿革

Founded in 1996 by Charif Souki, Cheniere Energy was incorporated in 1983 and built the Sabine Pass LNG import terminal in 2008, but the U.S. shale gas boom collapsed import economics and pushed the company near bankruptcy in 2008-2009. It pivoted in 2010 to add liquefaction (export) capacity, won FERC authorization and made its first final investment decision in 2012, and shipped the first U.S. lower-48 LNG export cargo from Sabine Pass on February 24, 2016. Souki was removed by the board in December 2015 and Jack Fusco (former Calpine CEO) took over in May 2016; the company reported its first full-year GAAP profit in 2018 and began paying dividends in 2021.

業界での地位

Cheniere Energy is the largest U.S. and second-largest global LNG operator, holding roughly half of U.S. export capacity through two terminals: Sabine Pass (SPL) in Louisiana and Corpus Christi (CCL) in Texas, plus the 94-mile Creole Trail and 21-mile Corpus Christi supply pipelines. Its business is liquefaction tolling under ~20-year take-or-pay contracts, with about 95% of expected output contracted and operating capacity exceeding 53 mtpa. Customers include Shell, TotalEnergies, BP, KOGAS and CPC, and named competitors are Venture Global (VG), NextDecade (NEXT), Sempra (SRE) and QatarEnergy; FY2025 revenue was about $20 billion with Consolidated Adjusted EBITDA of $6.94 billion and 670 cargoes exported.
