沿革

LyondellBasell Industries N.V. was incorporated in 2009 and is headquartered in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, with shares listed via an IPO on 2010-04-28. The company began paying dividends in 2011 and, from then through the end of March 2025, had paid approximately $24.9 billion in cumulative dividends. It has since restructured its portfolio under pressure from the chemicals cycle: the Refining segment ceased operations in 2025 and was reported as discontinued operations, leaving five operating segments today — Olefins & Polyolefins Americas; Olefins & Polyolefins Europe, Asia, International; Intermediates & Derivatives; Advanced Polymer Solutions; and Technology. In 2026 the company moved to sell part of its European O&P assets, expecting to recognize a pretax loss of $700 million to $800 million (including roughly $300 million of cash injection), and reset its dividend from about $1.37 to $0.69 per quarter while suspending active share buybacks. As of the most recent reporting it employs about 18,970 people, and its largest shareholder is Access Industries with roughly a 20.2% stake.

業界での地位

LyondellBasell is a global independent chemical company operating along the petrochemical value chain, serving downstream manufacturers in packaging, home, automotive, construction, coatings and industrial materials; no single customer accounted for more than 10% of revenue in 2023-2025. In its 10-K the company describes itself as a global leader in olefins and polyethylene and as the world's second-largest producer of polypropylene; in North America it is among the largest PP producers and the third-largest PE producer, and it ranks among global leaders in propylene oxide. Its competitive position rests primarily on cost, scale, integrated asset footprint and technology rather than brand: a North American light-feedstock advantage, European feedstock flexibility, plant integration, and a Technology segment that licenses polyolefin processes and sells catalysts (some catalyst volume also supplies internal use). The company held about 5,000 patents and patent applications in 2025 covering its PO, polymer and process technologies. The company states that many of its products cannot rely on differentiation to defend market position and that it often cannot fully pass feedstock-cost increases to customers, given intense competition from oil companies, state-owned enterprises and subsidized regional rivals; product prices are generally set by global market forces, and feedstock is its most important cost item.
