Tyson Foods, Inc., together with its subsidiaries, operates as a food company worldwide. It operates through four segments: Beef, Pork, Chicken, and Prepared Foods. The company processes live fed cattle and hogs; fabricates dressed beef and pork carcasses into primal and sub-primal meat cuts, as well as case ready beef and pork, and fully cooked meats; raises and processes chickens into fresh, frozen, and value-added chicken products, including breaded chicken strips, nuggets, patties, and other ready-to-fix or fully cooked chicken parts; and supplies poultry breeding stock. It also manufactures and markets frozen and refrigerated food products, including ready-to-eat sandwiches, flame-grilled hamburgers, Philly steaks, pepperoni, bacon, breakfast sausage, turkey, lunchmeat, hot dogs, flour and corn tortilla products, appetizers, snacks, prepared meals, ethnic foods, side dishes, meat dishes, breadsticks, and processed meats under the Tyson, Jimmy Dean, Hillshire Farm, Ball Park, Wright, Aidells, Gallo Salame, ibp, and State Fair brands. The company sells its products through its sales staff to grocery retailers, grocery wholesalers, meat distributors, warehouse club stores, military commissaries, industrial food processing companies, chain restaurants or their distributors, live markets, international export companies, and domestic distributors who serve restaurants and food service operations, such as plant and school cafeterias, convenience stores, hospitals, and other vendors, as well as through independent brokers and trading companies. Tyson Foods, Inc. was founded in 1935 and is headquartered in Springdale, Arkansas.

沿革

Tyson Foods, Inc. was founded in 1935 and is headquartered in Springdale, Arkansas, and operates as a food company worldwide. It went public in 1986 (IPO date 1986-07-09) and has paid a regular quarterly dividend on its common stock every year since 1977. The company has grown into a multi-protein operation reporting across five business segments: Beef, Pork, Chicken, Prepared Foods, and International. Beyond commodity slaughter and processing, it has built a portfolio of consumer brands, chiefly within Prepared Foods, including Tyson, Jimmy Dean, Hillshire Farm, Ball Park, Wright, Aidells, Gallo Salame, ibp, and State Fair. Its history includes substantial M&A activity, reflected in goodwill of $9.472 billion and net intangible assets of $5.526 billion as of March 28, 2026. The Tyson family remains deeply tied to the company through a dual-class share structure: as of December 8, 2025, Tyson Limited Partnership held nearly all Class B shares and controlled about 71.48% of total voting power, with combined Tyson family director holdings controlling roughly 71.90%. As of FY2025 the company employed about 133,000 people and generated $54.441 billion in sales. On May 28, 2026, Tyson announced that Jeff Schomburger would become CEO on October 4, 2026; Schomburger had served as a director since 2016 and as lead independent director from 2025, and brings a long Procter & Gamble consumer-products sales background.

業界での地位

Tyson Foods is a leading U.S. multi-protein food producer and, by its own disclosure, one of the few U.S. companies that simultaneously covers chicken, beef, pork, and prepared foods with full distribution through major retail channels; the company states on its website that it produces roughly 20% of U.S. beef, pork, and chicken. In FY2025 it recorded $54.441 billion in sales, and in H1 FY2026 segment sales were Beef $10.976 billion, Chicken $8.498 billion, Prepared Foods $5.184 billion, Pork $3.188 billion, and International $1.159 billion. The U.S. beef sector is highly concentrated: Reuters reports that Tyson, Cargill, JBS USA, and National Beef together slaughter about 85% of U.S. grain-fed cattle. The chicken sector is also concentrated but more fragmented; an AAEA 2025 article cites national broiler production shares as of 2024 of roughly 21.3% for Tyson, 15.8% for Pilgrim's Pride, and 14.4% for Wayne-Sanderson Farms. Tyson's differentiation comes from its combined scale across proteins, channels, and brands rather than absolute dominance in any single product. Its sources of advantage include national slaughter, procurement, distribution and cold-chain scale (producing about 20% of U.S. beef, pork and chicken), brand strength concentrated in Prepared Foods (Jimmy Dean, Hillshire Farm, Ball Park, Wright, Aidells), and a full-protein, full-channel capability valuable to large customers; Walmart alone accounted for 18.7% of consolidated sales in FY2025, with concentration around 18%-19% across FY2023-FY2025. In relative valuation comparisons the report references peers including Hormel and Pilgrim's Pride.
