沿革

Viatris Inc. was founded in 1961 and is headquartered in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. The company in its current form was created in 2020 through the merger of Mylan and Upjohn, and it began trading on November 16, 2020. Between 2022 and 2025 it carried out multiple business divestitures, reshaping its portfolio of generics, complex formulations, established brands, and an expanding set of innovative assets. On the balance sheet it has worked down debt, repaying $3.7 billion in 2024 and reaching its long-term gross leverage target of 2.9x. In 2025 the board and management completed an enterprise-wide strategic review aimed at optimizing structure, strengthening resource allocation, improving efficiency, and supporting reinvestment, and the company closed 60 regional business development deals during the year. Today Viatris operates across 165+ countries and territories with 30,000+ employees, 27 manufacturing, packaging, and distribution sites, and 1,400+ approved molecules, organized into four reporting segments: Developed Markets, Greater China, JANZ, and Emerging Markets.

業界での地位

Viatris is a global pharmaceutical platform built on generics and mature established brands, alongside complex formulations and a smaller innovative pipeline, spanning the Developed Markets, Greater China, JANZ, and Emerging Markets segments. In 2025 net sales were $14.250 billion, split between brand drugs at $9.184 billion and generics at $5.066 billion; by geography, Developed Markets contributed $8.514 billion, Greater China $2.333 billion, JANZ $1.194 billion, and Emerging Markets $2.210 billion. Its customers are not end patients but large buyers in the pharmaceutical distribution chain and health systems—wholesalers, retail chains, hospitals, physicians, and pharmacies—with the top three customers accounting for about 25% of 2025 net sales and the top ten products for about 36%. Underlying demand is stable: the FDA notes that 9 of every 10 U.S. prescriptions are filled with generics, and IQVIA projects roughly 1.9% CAGR in global drug usage over five years, though the sub-industry faces persistent price compression from government price cuts, tenders, international reference pricing, PBM negotiation, and wholesale/retail consolidation. Viatris’s primary scale advantage lies in its global manufacturing, registration, supply chain, channel, and regulatory-execution footprint rather than consumer mindshare, supported by recognized brands such as Lyrica, Lipitor, Creon, EpiPen, Wixela, Influvac, and Yupelri. Key comparable peers include Teva (2025 revenue $17.258 billion, Adjusted EBITDA $5.305 billion), Organon (2025 revenue $6.216 billion), and Amneal (2025 revenue $3.019 billion); Viatris is larger in scale than Organon and Amneal, while Teva carries differentiated innovative growth assets such as AUSTEDO, AJOVY, and UZEDY.
