Wheaton Precious Metals Corp. operates as a precious metal streaming company. It explores for gold, silver, palladium, platinum, and cobalt deposits in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Portugal, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Côte d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, and South Africa. The company was formerly known as Silver Wheaton Corp. and changed its name to Wheaton Precious Metals Corp. in May 2017. Wheaton traces back to 2004, when predecessor Chap Mercantile acquired all silver byproduct of the Luismin mines in Mexico from Wheaton River (later merged into Goldcorp), paying CAD 46 million upfront plus shares and an ongoing USD 3.90 per ounce, and began trading on the TSX under the ticker SLW in October 2004. It acquired a 25% life-of-mine silver stream of Peñasquito in 2007, struck Salobo and Sudbury gold streams with Vale in 2013, and renamed itself from Silver Wheaton to Wheaton Precious Metals in May 2017. It completed a London listing in 2020, and in 2026 Haytham Hodaly became CEO while founder Randy Smallwood became non-executive chairman, the same year it closed a USD 4.3 billion deal raising its Antamina silver interest from 33.75% to 67.5%.
