Carvana Co. was founded in 2012 and is based in Tempe, Arizona, and held its IPO on April 28, 2017. In 2022 it acquired the ADESA U.S. auction business for about USD 2.2 billion, gaining 56 locations, and recognized an USD 847 million goodwill impairment that year. In 2023 the company exchanged USD 5.5 billion of unsecured notes for USD 4.2 billion of secured notes plus USD 341 million in cash, and raised its 2017 incentive plan authorized shares from 16.1207 million to 36.1207 million. In May 2026 Carvana completed a 5-for-1 forward stock split.
