연혁
Equifax Inc. was founded in 1899 and is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, operating as a data, analytics, and technology company; it completed its IPO on May 11, 1971. The business is organized into three reporting segments: Workforce Solutions, U.S. Information Solutions (USIS), and International. A central asset built over time is The Work Number platform within Workforce Solutions, which draws payroll data from over 4 million contributing institutions and held roughly 209 million active and 813 million total employment records as of the end of 2025. The International segment extended the consumer and commercial credit-data model into markets across Latin America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Canada, with operations spanning more than twenty countries. In recent years the company carried out a roughly $3 billion global security and technology overhaul (including a cloud and security partnership with Google) that it described as basically complete by its 2025 reporting, during which capital expenditure as a share of revenue fell from about 11.4% in 2023 to about 7.9% in 2025. Mark Begor has served as Chief Executive Officer since 2018. Equifax remains subject to broad business-practice commitments stemming from settlement of its 2017 data breach.

Equifax is one of the three nationwide consumer credit reporting companies in the United States, classified by the CFPB alongside TransUnion and Experian as the "big three" in a mature, oligopolistic, and heavily regulated market governed by the FCRA framework. In 2025 its three segments generated revenue of $2.582 billion (Workforce Solutions), $2.079 billion (USIS), and $1.414 billion (International), roughly 43%, 34%, and 23% of the total; Workforce Solutions is the largest and most profitable, with a 2025 operating margin of 44.2% versus 22.9% for USIS and 12.9% for International. The company's principal moat sources are its large, comprehensive, non-public consumer and commercial databases and data network effects: more data contributors improve database completeness, which attracts more users, which in turn reinforces the platform — The Work Number being the clearest example, drawing payroll data from over 4 million institutions. Customer concentration is low, with the largest customer accounting for only about 3% of 2025 revenue, and switching costs arise because financial institutions, mortgage lenders, governments, and large employers embed Equifax data interfaces and decision workflows into their own systems. Among comparable public peers, Experian reported FY26 revenue of $8.425 billion and TransUnion reported 2025 revenue of $4.576 billion; Equifax is differentiated from both by The Work Number's hard-to-replicate employment and income verification dataset.
