연혁

Hasbro, Inc. was founded in 1923 and is headquartered in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, operating as a toy and game company; it conducted its IPO on December 18, 1984. Over the 2020-2023 period the company was structured around toys plus film and TV content via its eOne business, but it has since visibly contracted back toward a games, IP and licensing core: in 2023 it sold the eOne Film and TV business and recorded a net loss of 1.489 billion USD, and in 2025 it recognized 1.022 billion USD of goodwill impairment. Hasbro is now organized into three segments—Wizards of the Coast and Digital Gaming, Consumer Products, and Entertainment—with 2025 segment revenue of roughly 2.187 billion USD, 2.438 billion USD and 0.077 billion USD respectively. Chris Cocks has served as CEO since 2022, having previously spent a long tenure within the Wizards of the Coast organization, and in 2025 the company launched its "Playing to Win" strategy to refocus on higher-margin, more asset-light, fan-oriented businesses. As of the latest data the company had about 4,520 employees.

업계 내 위치

Hasbro operates in the toy and game industry, which is closer to a mature market than a high-growth one; per Circana, 2025 global toy industry sales grew 7% and U.S. sales grew 6%, with growth driven by pop culture, collectibles, licensed merchandise and adult "kidult" demand. The company owns a portfolio of cross-generational brands and IP including MAGIC: THE GATHERING, DUNGEONS & DRAGONS, MONOPOLY, PLAY-DOH, NERF, TRANSFORMERS and PEPPA PIG, and also sells products under licensed brands such as Lucasfilm's STAR WARS. Its most direct public-market competitor is Mattel. Hasbro's competitive sources lie mainly in IP rather than manufacturing, as it depends heavily on external supply chains and on manufacturing in China, Vietnam and India; within the Wizards business, MAGIC: THE GATHERING and DUNGEONS & DRAGONS carry community network effects and switching costs, since players' card libraries, rules familiarity, community relationships, tournament and store ecosystems, and digital accounts raise the cost of leaving relative to ordinary toys—reflected in the Wizards segment's Q1 2026 operating margin of 51.2% versus the Consumer Products segment's negative margin. The company also faces customer concentration: in 2025 its top five retail customers contributed about 35% of consolidated revenue, with Amazon and Walmart accounting for roughly 11% and 9% respectively.
