연혁

Tower Semiconductor Ltd. is an independent semiconductor foundry incorporated in 1993 and headquartered in Migdal Haemek, Israel; it completed its IPO on October 25, 1994. The company built itself around specialty process technologies, including SiGe, BiCMOS, mixed-signal/CMOS, RF CMOS, image sensors, non-imaging sensors, BCD/700V power, MEMS, and silicon photonics, and operates a manufacturing network spanning the United States, Israel, Italy, and Japan with multiple 200mm and 300mm fabs plus a controlling interest in Japan's TPSCo. In 2023, a planned acquisition of Tower by Intel was terminated, and Tower received a $353 million reverse termination fee (after-tax net of roughly $313.5 million). Revenue moved only modestly over recent years, from about $1.508 billion in 2021 to about $1.566 billion in 2025, and the company held 281 valid patents at the end of 2025. Its senior leadership has been long-tenured: CEO Russell Ellwanger since 2005, CFO Oren Shirazi since 2004, and COO Rafi Mor since 2014.

업계 내 위치

Tower operates in the specialty-process / mature-node foundry segment, serving consumer, industrial, automotive, mobile, infrastructure, medical, aerospace, and defense end applications. According to TrendForce's Q4 2025 ranking, UMC placed fourth, GlobalFoundries fifth, and Tower seventh, with Tower's roughly $440 million of quarterly semiconductor revenue lifting it to seventh globally; its scale is markedly smaller than UMC and GFS, while it is more concentrated in niches such as silicon photonics, SiGe, and analog/power/sensor processes. In Q1 2026 Tower posted $413.6 million in revenue and guided to a record $455 million for Q2 2026, and it disclosed silicon-photonics long-term agreements providing about $1.3 billion of contract-revenue visibility for 2027. Its 2025 customer base was moderately concentrated, with NTCJ contributing 11% of revenue and seven additional customers each contributing 4%-7% (39% combined), while 2025 revenue by geography was United States 42%, Japan 13%, Asia ex-Japan 39%, and Europe 6%. Differentiation rests on process and customer-collaboration capability rather than brand or network effects: after a customer completes process introduction, validation, and volume production, switching platforms is costly. In March 2026, GlobalFoundries filed three patent lawsuits against Tower.
