연혁
Textron Inc. was founded in 1923 and is headquartered in Providence, Rhode Island, with its IPO dated October 24, 1984. It operates as a multi-industry group across aircraft, defense, industrial, and finance, organized into six segments: Textron Aviation, Bell, Textron Systems, Industrial, Textron eAviation, and Finance. The eAviation business was established in 2022 following the acquisition of Pipistrel, extending the company into electric and sustainable light aircraft. In 2026 Textron announced a planned spin-off of its Industrial segment to refocus on a purer aerospace and defense core. Leadership transitioned on January 4, 2026, when Lisa Atherton, previously president and CEO of Bell, became president and CEO and joined the board, while Scott Donnelly moved to executive chairman. Over 2020 to 2025 revenue grew from $11.651 billion to $14.799 billion while the share count was steadily reduced from 226.4 million at the end of 2020 to 174.3 million at the end of 2025 through large ongoing buybacks. By 2025 the company employed about 34,000 people, with revenue split roughly 40.3% Textron Aviation, 28.9% Bell, 21.7% Industrial, and 8.4% Textron Systems.
업계 내 위치
Textron is an aerospace-and-defense-led multi-industry group that also carries industrial and a small finance business, with customers split about 73% commercial and 27% U.S. government in 2025. In its February 2026 disclosure, Textron Aviation held industry-leading positions in total business jet, total turbine aircraft, and total turboprop deliveries for 2025; the Citation Latitude was the most-delivered midsize business jet for 10 consecutive years, the Caravan remained the best-selling utility turboprop, and the King Air the best-selling twin-engine turboprop. Bell carries an installed base of about 13,000 helicopters supported by company-owned and independent service networks. As of April 4, 2026 total backlog stood at $19.162 billion, comprising Aviation $8 billion, Bell $7.603 billion, and Systems $3.559 billion. The company's competitive position rests on the Cessna, Beechcraft, and Bell brands, FAA certification, military qualification, in-service fleet support, and switching costs from aftermarket parts, maintenance, and training; it lacks network effects and significant cost advantages. Bell competes against rivals including Airbus and Leonardo, where Airbus Helicopters took 536 net orders in 2025, while comparable large defense peers include General Dynamics and L3Harris. The Industrial segment is the weaker part of the portfolio, facing inflation and competition from Chinese substitutes as reported by Reuters in 2025.
