História

Bunge Global SA was founded in 1818 and is headquartered in Chesterfield, Missouri. The company completed its IPO on August 2, 2001, and today operates across more than 50 countries with about 34,000 employees. Bunge runs an agribusiness and food platform spanning the origination, storage, transportation, processing, refining, distribution and marketing of oilseeds, grains and related products, organized into four reporting segments. A defining recent milestone was the acquisition of Viterra, completed on July 2, 2025, for a total purchase consideration of about 10.617 billion dollars, comprising roughly 5.34 billion dollars in Bunge stock, 1.88 billion dollars in cash, and the repayment of certain Viterra debt. The transaction materially reshaped the company's scale and structure: total debt rose from 6.238 billion dollars to 14.051 billion dollars, goodwill increased from 453 million dollars to 3.141 billion dollars, and shares outstanding grew from 134 million to 193 million. Viterra's results were consolidated only from the July 2, 2025 closing date through year-end, and 2025 net sales reached 70.329 billion dollars.

Posição no setor

Bunge operates in the mature, cyclical agribusiness industry, classified under Consumer Defensive / Farm Products. It connects agricultural raw materials from origination to food, animal feed, biofuel and other industrial end markets through its four segments: Soybean Processing and Refining, Softseed Processing and Refining, Tropical Oils and Specialty Ingredients, and Grain Merchandising and Milling. It is a low-margin, capital-intensive, working-capital-heavy commodity business, with 2025 gross profit of 3.409 billion dollars on 70.329 billion dollars of net sales, a gross margin of about 4.8 percent. Its principal competitors are global agricultural trading and processing players including ADM, Cargill, Louis Dreyfus, Wilmar and COFCO, with Andersons cited as a smaller North American comparable. Reuters noted that completing the Viterra acquisition established Bunge as a significant global player competing alongside ADM and Cargill. Following the deal, Bunge's coverage of crops, origination regions, ports and export channels expanded into a more complete global platform; its strengths lie in the density of its asset network, global logistics and dispatch, and risk-management capabilities rather than consumer brand pricing power. Glencore disclosed beneficial ownership of about 32.81 million shares, roughly 16 to 17 percent of the company, and shareholder arrangements grant Glencore and CPP Investments board nomination rights upon meeting ownership thresholds.
