História
NetApp, Inc. went public on November 21, 1995, and has since evolved into an enterprise data-infrastructure company employing roughly 11,700 people. It positions itself as an "intelligent data infrastructure company" and operates through two segments, Hybrid Cloud and Public Cloud. In FY2025 the company generated revenue of about $6.57 billion, of which Hybrid Cloud contributed roughly $5.91 billion and Public Cloud about $665 million; by mix, product revenue accounted for 46% and service revenue 54%, reflecting a shift from a hardware-centric base toward software, support and recurring services. George Kurian has served as Chief Executive Officer since June 2015 and joined the board that same year. The company has reshaped its portfolio over time through acquisitions in cloud operations and cloud data services and through divestiture, selling its Spot cloud optimization and management business in FY2025, and it has built out cloud and operational offerings including Instaclustr, while maintaining a strategic alliance with Commvault Systems for enterprise data protection and cyber resilience.
Posição no setor
NetApp operates in the enterprise data-storage and intelligent data-infrastructure industry. According to IDC, the global external enterprise storage systems market grew only 2.1% year over year in the third quarter of 2025; within that market NetApp ranked third with a 9.4% share, aided by its all-flash performance, and in 2025 it was recognized as a Gartner enterprise storage platform leader. Its strongest pure-play competitor is Pure Storage, with larger diversified competitors including Dell and HPE; for reference, Pure Storage reported FY2026 revenue of $3.7 billion and free cash flow of $616 million, Dell reported FY2026 Q4 Storage revenue of $4.8 billion (up 2% year over year), and HPE reported FY2026 Q1 Storage revenue of $1.1 billion (up 0.6%). NetApp's differentiation rests on high switching costs—customer storage, backup, compliance, security, disaster recovery and application environments are deeply bound to its platform, reflected in a large deferred and financed unearned services revenue balance of about $4.54 billion at the end of FY2025 rising to roughly $4.63 billion by FY2026 Q3, and in stable support revenue—together with its claim to be the only company offering enterprise-grade storage services natively embedded in the three major public clouds, AWS, Azure and Google Cloud. The company sells largely through channels, with 78% of FY2025 revenue coming through indirect channels (Arrow 21% and TD Synnex 24%), and it continued to grow in FY2026 Q3 with all-flash array revenue up 11% and first-party and marketplace cloud storage services up 27% year over year.
