Posição no setor
Prudential Financial operates in the mature U.S. and global life insurance, retirement, and annuity industry, where it is a leading nationwide and global participant rather than a marginal player. According to NAIC 2025 data, Prudential of America Group ranked 4th by U.S. life insurance premiums with about a 5.97% market share, 6th by annuity premiums with about 4.22%, and 5th by combined life, annuity, and health premiums; in ACLI's compilation of 2023 NAIC data, Prudential Financial ranked 1st among U.S. life insurance groups by total assets. The company's scale advantages rest on a large balance sheet ($773.74 billion in total assets and $1.609 trillion in total AUM at end-2025, with PGIM at about $1.466 trillion), capital strength, and regulatory and licensing barriers, while its core insurance subsidiaries (The Prudential Insurance Company of America and PRUCO Life) hold financial-strength ratings of A+ / AA- / Aa3 / AA- (A.M. Best / S&P / Moody's / Fitch). Switching costs arise from long-term contracts, tax implications, surrender costs, and established distribution relationships across U.S. retirement, group, and life lines and Japan's Life Planner channel. Its principal competitors include MetLife, Principal, Aflac, Lincoln, Voya, Brighthouse, and RGA.
