История

Carpenter Technology Corporation was founded in 1889 and is headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The company went public on November 5, 1987, and today employs roughly 4,500 people across operations in the United States, Europe, the Asia Pacific, Mexico, and Canada. It is organized into two segments: Specialty Alloys Operations (SAO), the specialty-metals core, and Performance Engineered Products (PEP), which includes Dynamet titanium, additive manufacturing, and certain distribution activities. After a downturn in FY2021-FY2022, when FY2021 revenue was $1.4756 billion against a $248.6 million operating loss, the business recovered strongly, with FY2025 revenue reaching $2.8771 billion. In FY2024 the company recorded a $14.1 million goodwill impairment on Latrobe Distribution and undertook restructuring and asset write-downs at Carpenter Additive. In November 2025 it issued $700 million of 5.625% senior unsecured notes due 2034 and redeemed its older 2028 (6.375%) and 2030 (7.625%) notes, leaving a cleaner maturity structure.

Положение в отрасли

Carpenter Technology is a specialty-metals manufacturer producing titanium alloys, powder metals, stainless steels, alloy steels, tool steels, and metal powders and parts, with capabilities increasingly concentrated in high-end aerospace and defense materials. It serves the aerospace, defense, medical, transportation, energy, industrial, and consumer markets; in FY2025 aerospace and defense contributed $1.7686 billion, about 61% of the $2.8771 billion total, rising to roughly 66% of surcharge-excluded net sales by the third quarter of FY2026. Competition is concentrated: the company states in its 10-K that fewer than ten companies are its main competitors for high-value, demanding products, many of which can only be supplied after passing complex customer specifications and qualification. Its barriers to entry rest on more than 135 years of metallurgical and manufacturing experience, material certification and qualification records, process know-how, and relationship-based long-term agreements rather than any single patent, and no single customer accounts for more than 10% of sales. The most representative listed comparable cited is ATI.
