История
Expand Energy Corporation was founded in 1989 and is an independent U.S. natural gas production company engaged in the acquisition, exploration, and development of properties to produce oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids (NGL). It was formerly known as Chesapeake Energy Corporation and changed its name to Expand Energy Corporation in October 2024; the predecessor Chesapeake had emerged from bankruptcy reorganization in February 2021, and the company's listing dates to February 10, 2021. Its asset base spans the Marcellus Shale in the northern Appalachian Basin in Pennsylvania, the Marcellus and Utica Shales in Ohio and West Virginia, and the Haynesville and Bossier Shales in Louisiana and Texas. In 2025 the company completed the all-stock acquisition of Southwestern, which stepped up its operating scale, inventory life, Haynesville cost-curve position, and market reach into the Gulf Coast and Appalachia; diluted weighted shares rose from about 143 million in 2023 to about 240 million in 2025 mainly as a result. As of Q1 2026 production was about 7.44 Bcfe/d, of which roughly 93% was natural gas, and the company is based in Spring, Texas.
Положение в отрасли
Expand Energy is one of the largest natural gas producers in the United States; its Q1 2026 10-Q states it is the largest U.S. natural gas producer by net daily production. The company is an upstream exploration-and-development producer whose revenue comes from selling natural gas, oil, and NGL into wholesale, pipeline/midstream, and LNG-linked markets rather than to retail consumers, making it a commodity price taker without brand, network-effect, or switching-cost advantages. Its main strengths are cost and scale: it holds large-scale resources in both the Haynesville and Appalachia, emphasizes connectivity to Gulf Coast and Northeast premium markets, reports a Haynesville breakeven improvement of about 15% to below $2.75, and cites 20-plus years of inventory depth; it has also signed a 20-year Delfin LNG offtake SPA targeting a 2031 start. Key competitors include EQT, a top-tier gas producer with integrated midstream/Mountain Valley Pipeline assets that reported 2,382 Bcfe of 2025 sales volume and $5.904 billion of adjusted EBITDA, and Antero, which differentiates through its liquids/NGL mix, NGL value realization, and Marcellus operating efficiency.
