История

Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. is a natural resource-based building materials company founded in 1939 and based in Raleigh, North Carolina; it completed its IPO on 1994-02-16 and now employs about 9,600 people. The company supplies aggregates and heavy-side building materials, with products including crushed stone, sand and gravel, ready mixed concrete, asphalt and paving products, alongside magnesia-based chemicals and dolomitic lime, and operates through its East Group and West Group segments. Its footprint spans more than 500 locations and 480 quarries, underground mines and distribution yards across 28 U.S. states, Canada and the Bahamas. In 2025 management reshaped the portfolio toward aggregates: the QUIKRETE asset exchange brought in aggregates assets producing roughly 20 million tons per year plus $450 million in cash in return for the Midlothian cement plant, related terminals, Texas ready-mixed concrete assets and certain non-operating land, while a Minnesota bolt-on added about 40 million tons of reserves and Premier Magnesia was acquired to strengthen the specialty business. By 2025 aggregates contributed 88% of reportable segment gross profit, and the aggregates reserves had an average life of about 85 years at 2025 production levels.

Положение в отрасли

Martin Marietta is the second-largest crushed stone producer in the United States and a national leader in the aggregates industry. Based on USGS-derived 2023 rankings, the leading U.S. crushed stone producers were Vulcan, Martin Marietta and CRH Americas, and the company also ranks among the leaders in construction sand and gravel. Its strongest direct competitor is Vulcan Materials, which describes itself as the largest U.S. aggregates producer; other peers include the smaller, more vertically integrated Eagle Materials and the larger, more diversified and global CRH, which is not a pure-aggregates comparable. The company's competitive position rests on factual sources such as its scarce mining reserves, mining permits, transport radius, local market share and its large network of quarries and mines, with an average reserve life of about 85 years underscoring the importance of its existing resource positions. Reflecting pricing capability, 2025 aggregates gross profit per ton rose 12% to $8.45 per ton. The company is led by CEO C. Howard Nye.
