История

Mettler-Toledo International Inc. was incorporated in 1991 and is headquartered in Greifensee, Switzerland, and completed its IPO on November 13, 1997. The company manufactures and supplies precision instruments and services worldwide, operating through five segments: U.S. Operations, Swiss Operations, Western European Operations, Chinese Operations, and Other Operations. Its product range spans laboratory instruments (balances, pipetting solutions, titrators, pH meters, process analytics, thermal analysis, UV/VIS spectrophotometers, and the LabX software platform), industrial instruments (industrial weighing, dimensional measurement, vehicle scales, metal detectors, x-ray and checkweighing systems), and retail weighing solutions, complemented by installation, calibration, certification, maintenance and spare-part services. By 2025 the company employed about 16,600 people, with roughly 9,300 sales and service staff, products sold in more than 140 countries and direct operations in about 40 countries. Положение в отрасли

Mettler-Toledo is a global leading supplier of precision instruments and services across life-science/laboratory tools, industrial process measurement, and retail weighing. In 2025 its sales split roughly to 56% laboratory, 39% industrial, and 5% retail, with services (service contracts, transactional service, and spare parts) accounting for about 25% of 2025 sales. Its customer base is highly diversified, with no single end customer contributing more than 1% of 2025 sales. The company operates at high profitability, with a 2025 gross margin of about 59.4%. Its competitive position rests on brand, the largest installed base of weighing equipment, a broad global sales and service network, switching costs once instruments are embedded in laboratory SOPs and compliance documentation, and regulatory/calibration expertise rather than patents; the company states that no single patent or related patent portfolio is materially important to its overall business. The market is described as highly competitive and fragmented by geography and application, with low-cost emerging-market competitors and instrument businesses of larger groups exerting pressure. Competitors with overlapping businesses include Waters, Agilent, Thermo Fisher, Bruker, and Danaher; for scale comparison, Thermo Fisher's analytical instruments segment reported about $7.35 billion of revenue in 2025 and Danaher's life sciences segment about $7.33 billion in 2024.
