История
Onto Innovation Inc. was founded in 1940 and is headquartered in Wilmington, Massachusetts, with its shares trading since an IPO dated February 26, 1992. The company designs, develops, manufactures, and supports process-control tools for the semiconductor industry, spanning metrology, macro-defect inspection, advanced-packaging lithography, and process-control analytical and yield-management software, and it serves silicon wafer makers, wafer fabs, IDMs, foundries, and advanced-packaging manufacturers across the United States, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, China, Southeast Asia, and Europe. By FY2025 the company generated revenue of $1.005 billion, of which systems and software accounted for 84%, parts 8%, and service 8%, and it employed about 1,615 people. The company has expanded its platform through acquisitions and investments: in 2025 it announced the purchase of Semilab International's materials-analysis business for a total value of about $545 million, adding product lines such as inline contamination monitoring, materials-interface characterization, and surface-charge metrology; in April 2026 it announced an approximately $710 million investment for a 27% stake in Rigaku; and in May 2026 it announced a $1.3 billion 0% convertible note offering, of which about $205 million was earmarked to repurchase roughly 800,000 shares.
Положение в отрасли
Onto Innovation operates in the semiconductor capital-equipment market, focused on the process-control niche of metrology, defect inspection, advanced-packaging lithography, and factory process and yield-analysis software, with products used across advanced logic and memory, HBM and advanced packaging, power devices, CMOS image sensors, RF filters, and compound-semiconductor applications. Its principal competitors include KLA, Nova, and Camtek; in advanced-packaging lithography it also competes with Ushio and Canon, and in factory analytics software with PDF Solutions. The company's customer base is concentrated and regionally weighted toward Asia: in FY2025 Taiwan represented 32% of revenue, South Korea 28%, the United States 12%, Japan 10%, China 7%, Southeast Asia 6%, and Europe 5%, while its three largest customers accounted for 20%, 15%, and 14% of revenue, respectively. Onto Innovation sources its differentiation from factors that raise switching costs and customer stickiness: long qualification and evaluation cycles in which repeat purchases after an initial order can take from three months to more than a year, deep involvement in customers' production-line process recipes and yield data, and direct sales with local application and service support in the United States, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, China, Vietnam, Singapore, and Europe. Management has cited customer service and technical support as a key competitive factor, and disclosed in April 2026 that a Rigaku-partnered X-ray solution had been selected by two key customers, with related market opportunity it described as exceeding $1 billion over the next five years.
