История

Zoetis Inc. was incorporated in 2012 and is headquartered in Parsippany, New Jersey, completing its IPO on February 1, 2013. The company discovers, develops, manufactures, and commercializes medicines, vaccines, diagnostic products and services, biodevices, genetic tests, and precision animal health solutions for both companion animals (dogs, cats, horses) and livestock species (cattle, swine, poultry, fish, sheep). It has grown to roughly 300 product lines with direct sales in about 45 countries and products reaching more than 100 countries, employing approximately 14,500 people. Revenue rose from $6.675 billion in 2020 to $9.467 billion in 2025, a compound annual growth rate of about 7.2%, while the portfolio expanded into diagnostics, AI platforms, and genetic and precision animal health. The company has collaborated with Blacksmith Medicines, Inc. to develop novel antibiotics, and in the first quarter of 2026 announced the acquisition of Neogen's animal genomics business to strengthen its livestock genetic data capabilities.

Положение в отрасли

Zoetis defines itself as the largest animal health company by revenue, operating as a global leader across animal pharmaceuticals, vaccines, diagnostics, biodevices, genetic tests, and precision animal health. In 2025, companion animals accounted for about 70% of revenue, livestock about 29%, and international markets about 45%. Its top five products or product lines represented roughly 42% of 2025 revenue and the top ten about 57%, with Simparica and Simparica Trio at about 16% and Apoquel and Apoquel Chewable at about 12%; its largest customer, a U.S. veterinary distributor, was about 16% of 2025 revenue. In its 10-K, the company lists Boehringer, Merck Animal Health, Elanco, and IDEXX as principal competitors. Its competitive position rests on factual sources including brand loyalty that often persists after patents and regulatory exclusivity expire, regulatory registration barriers (animal drugs, vaccines, and certain diagnostics are regulated by the FDA and USDA in the U.S.), scale and a global distribution network promoted by sales representatives and technically trained teams with veterinary backgrounds, and switching costs tied to veterinarian and livestock-management practices. As an illustration of patent-related share dynamics, Draxxin faced generic competition in the U.S. from 2021, after which its U.S. sales declined a cumulative 66%.
