History
Deckers Outdoor Corporation was founded in 1973 and is headquartered in Goleta, California; it completed its IPO on October 14, 1993. The company designs, markets, and distributes footwear, apparel, and accessories rather than manufacturing them in-house, operating an asset-light model that outsources production to independent third-party factories. Its brand portfolio has become concentrated around HOKA, UGG, and Teva, with additional brands Koolaburra and AHNU; the company recorded a Sanuk trademark impairment in 2024, sold Sanuk in 2025, and began exiting standalone operation of Koolaburra. Revenue grew from $3,150.3 million in FY2022 to $5,472.3 million in FY2026, and diluted share count declined from roughly 160 million in FY2023 to about 146 million in FY2026 amid active buybacks. In FY2026 HOKA generated $2,587 million in sales and UGG $2,739 million, with other brands at $146 million, so HOKA and UGG together accounted for about 97% of revenue. The company has shifted from a primarily U.S. brand toward a global platform: FY2026 U.S. revenue was roughly flat while international revenue rose 26.8% year over year, and second-source filings summaries indicate operation of e-commerce sites in 54 countries and 203 retail stores. The company employs about 6,000 people, and during 2025 it completed a multi-year planned CEO transition.
Industry position
Deckers operates in the global footwear and accessories industry (Consumer Cyclical sector), competing through brand strength, channel management, and operating discipline rather than through scale, network effects, or patents. In the performance running category where HOKA competes, rivals include Nike, On, ASICS, New Balance, and Adidas; UGG sits in the more fragmented comfort and lifestyle footwear, slipper, boot, and casual-shoe category. Deckers is not the largest company in the industry, and according to Euromonitor data cited by Reuters, Nike's global sneaker market share fell to 22.9% in 2025 while brands including Adidas, New Balance, On, and HOKA gained share. The company sells through both wholesale channels (department stores, specialty retailers, distributors) and direct-to-consumer, with FY2026 wholesale revenue of $3,208 million and DTC revenue of $2,264 million; HOKA footwear such as the Clifton and Bondi has gained shelf space at retailers including Dick's Sporting Goods and Nordstrom. Customer concentration is moderate: in FY2025 no single customer exceeded 10% of total sales and the top ten customers represented 23.7% (24.2% in FY2024). Supply is geographically concentrated in Asia, with 45 Tier-1 factory partners as of April 2026 located mainly in Vietnam, Indonesia, and China, and 282 Tier-2 suppliers concentrated in China, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Taiwan.
