History

Masco Corporation was incorporated in 1929 and is headquartered in Livonia, Michigan; it completed its IPO on June 10, 1983 and employs about 18,000 people. The company supplies home improvement and building products across North America, Europe, and internationally, organized into two segments: Plumbing Products (brands including DELTA, BRIZO, PEERLESS, HANSGROHE, AXOR, KRAUS, HOT SPRING, CALDERA, and ENDLESS POOLS) and Decorative Architectural Products (brands including BEHR, KILZ, WHIZZ, LIBERTY, and FRANKLIN BRASS). In fiscal 2025 it generated sales of about $7.562 billion with operating income of about $1.248 billion. Through sustained share repurchases, year-end shares outstanding fell from 241.2 million in 2021 to 204.3 million in 2025, a reduction of about 15%. In July 2025 Jonathon Nudi became President and CEO, succeeding Keith Allman, who had led the company for ten years; the company divested Kichler in 2024 (recording an approximately $88 million loss) and began a $300 million accelerated share repurchase in May 2026, when first-quarter net sales rose 6% year over year.

Industry position

Masco is a global home improvement and building products company whose demand comes mainly from residential repair and remodeling, and secondarily from new home construction. In its 10-K the company describes its plumbing products as among the leaders in sales in North America and Europe. Its competitive position rests on brand, channel, scale, and execution rather than network effects or data advantages. In plumbing and bath it competes with Moen, Kohler, Lixil/Grohe/American Standard, Pfister, and Zurn Elkay, alongside private-label and digitally native brands; in coatings it competes with Sherwin-Williams, PPG, RPM's Rust-Oleum, and Benjamin Moore. A defining structural feature is channel concentration: Behr products are exclusive to The Home Depot in North American retail channels, Kilz primer carries exclusive arrangements at U.S. big-box and some online channels, and The Home Depot is the company's largest overall customer, which the company discloses as a key dependency. Long-term demand is supported by an aging U.S. housing stock, with the median age of owner-occupied homes at 42 years and about half of homes built before 1980.
