Historia

HP Inc. was founded in 1939 and is headquartered in Palo Alto, California. The company was formerly known as Hewlett-Packard Company and changed its name to HP Inc. in October 2015. It operates through three reporting segments: Personal Systems, Printing, and Corporate Investments. By fiscal 2025 the company employed about 55,000 people and generated total revenue of 55.295 billion, split between Personal Systems at 38.532 billion and Printing at 16.702 billion; Printing accounted for roughly 30% of revenue but about 60% of segment operating profit, reflecting an evolution toward a business supported by higher-margin printing supplies. Notable acquisitions include Poly (with about 2.755 billion in net cash used for business acquisitions in fiscal 2022) and a 2025 acquisition of AI capabilities and team from Humane. From fiscal 2021 to fiscal 2025, year-end shares outstanding fell from 1.092 billion to 921 million through sustained dividends and buybacks.

Posición en el sector

HP Inc. is a large, channel-driven hardware company spanning two distinct businesses: personal computing and printing. In PCs, its global unit share was roughly 20%-21% in 2025, holding the number-two position behind Lenovo; Gartner full-year 2025 data put Lenovo at 27.2%, HP at 21.3%, and Dell at 15.3%. Its main PC competitors are Lenovo, Dell, Apple, ASUS, and Acer, while in printing it competes with Canon, Epson, and Brother. HP's competitive advantages stem from its brand, distribution channels, scale operations, and the installed base and supplies system in printing, where the higher-margin, recurring nature of supplies (including Instant Ink, HP All-In Plan, and Managed Print Services) provides switching costs; PC switching costs are lower. The company is heavily channel-dependent: TD Synnex accounted for 12% of fiscal 2025 revenue and 12.6% of year-end accounts receivable, with the top ten distributors and resellers making up about 47% of year-end receivables. Its market position is not uniformly secure-Epson, citing IDC data, reported surpassing HP in global inkjet printer share in Q3 2025 at 34.1%.
