沿革

Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD) is a medical technology firm that develops, manufactures, and sells medical supplies, devices, laboratory equipment, and diagnostic products worldwide, with an IPO date of 1987-01-01 and roughly 60,000 employees. After completing the separation of its Waters (Biosciences & Diagnostic Solutions) transaction, BD became a more focused "New BD," and as of the second quarter of fiscal 2026 its continuing operations comprise four segments: Medical Essentials, Connected Care, BioPharma Systems, and Interventional. For the first half of fiscal 2026 (ended March 31, 2026), these segments generated revenue of 3.242 billion, 2.252 billion, 1.019 billion, and 2.687 billion dollars respectively, totaling 9.200 billion dollars. The Waters transaction provided 4 billion dollars in cash, which management allocated as 2 billion dollars to share repurchase and 2 billion dollars to debt repayment, and the company has increased its dividend for 54 consecutive years while retaining an investment-grade credit rating.

業界での地位

BD describes itself as one of the world's largest pure-play medical technology companies and states that it holds leading positions in most of the markets it serves. Its revenue base is highly recurring, with the company characterizing itself in 2025 proxy materials as having a consumables revenue structure exceeding 90%, and as of March 31, 2026 certain Medication Management Solutions and Medication Delivery Solutions contracts carried unfulfilled minimum consumables purchase commitments corresponding to roughly 2 billion dollars of future revenue. Its competitive position rests on factual sources including scale and installed base, switching costs (products such as Alaris, Pyxis, monitoring platforms, and pharmacy automation are bound to hospital IT, pharmacy workflows, EMR connectivity, and consumables), channel and compliance barriers requiring long-term certification, registration, clinical validation, and quality management, and high-frequency consumables repurchase. Brands include BD, Vacutainer, Pyxis, and Alaris, and named comparable companies include Thermo Fisher, Medtronic, Boston Scientific, and Baxter. The company also has a strategic collaboration with ChemoGLO for the advancement of hazardous drug contamination testing.
