Graco Inc. designs, manufactures, and markets systems and equipment used to move, measure, mix, control, dispense, and spray fluid and powder materials in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Asia Pacific. It operates through three segments: Contractor, Industrial and Expansion Markets. The Contractor segment provides sprayers to apply paint to walls and other structures; two-component proportioning systems to spray polyurethane foam and polyurea coatings; viscous coatings to roofs, markings on roads, parking lots, athletic fields, and floors; and high-performance volumetric and gravimetric dispense, mixing, and shaking equipment. The Industrial segment designs and manufactures liquid finishing and advanced fluid dispensing equipment; pumps to move chemicals, petroleum, food, and other fluids; and systems, components, and accessories for the automatic lubrication of bearings, gears, and generators; supplies equipment for equipment maintenance and vehicle servicing applications, as well as make powder finishing products and complete powder finishing systems. The Expansion Markets segment manufactures pumps for use in the semiconductor industry; high pressure and ultra-high-pressure valves used in the oil and natural gas industry; and environmental monitoring and remediation equipment that is used to conduct ground water sampling, ground water remediation, and for landfill liquid and gas management. Graco Inc. was incorporated in 1926 and is headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

沿革

Graco began in 1926 as Gray Company, founded in Minneapolis by brothers Russell and Leil Gray after Russell invented an air-powered portable lubricator. It created its Industrial Equipment Division in 1945 and introduced its first airless paint sprayer in 1958, moving from lubrication into paint application. The company changed its name from Gray Company to Graco Inc. and went public in 1969. In the 1970s it acquired H.G. Fischer, adding electrostatic paint spray guns and strengthening automotive and industrial finishing, and through the 1980s and 1990s it reorganized around market-facing divisions that became today's Contractor, Industrial, and Lubrication lines. Graco surpassed 1 billion of revenue in 2012; that same year it closed the 650 million acquisition of Illinois Tool Works' finishing businesses, but the FTC required it to divest the liquid finishing assets to Carlisle for 590 million while retaining powder-related operations. It crossed 2 billion of revenue in 2022. More recently it bought Corob for EUR 230 million in November 2024, added Color Service and Radia in 2025, and in May 2026 agreed to acquire Valco Melton (about 145 million of 2025 revenue, serving more than 80 countries) for 447 million in cash, or roughly 14 times 2025 EBITDA. Effective January 1, 2025 Graco reorganized its reporting structure from Contractor, Industrial, and Process to Contractor, Industrial, and Expansion Markets, with prior-year segment information recast. It is incorporated in 1926 and headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

業界での地位

Graco Inc. designs, manufactures, and markets systems and equipment used to move, measure, mix, control, dispense, and spray fluid and powder materials, operating through three segments: Contractor, Industrial, and Expansion Markets. It is a distributor-led fluid-handling equipment maker with premium-industrial economics, posting high-20s operating margins and a management-cited 20-year average ROIC of 23%. About 40% of revenue comes from parts and accessories and about 48% from high-value low-volume products, and the company sells through more than 30,000 outlets and distributors, giving it a serviceable installed base that pulls through replacement parts long after the original sale. Its moat rests on channel depth (distributors that provide demonstration, technical advice, integration, and ongoing service), application specificity (focusing on niches where fluids are hard to move and process failures are costly), and capital discipline backed by a strong balance sheet. Graco is smaller than its closest listed peers Nordson, IDEX, Dover, and Illinois Tool Works but not meaningfully inferior on quality, with a market capitalization of about 12.6 billion; it sits closest to Nordson in how customers weigh application quality and installed-base economics. It is a niche leader with premium economics rather than the category's largest or most expensive platform, taking profit from the part of the value chain where process performance, trained channels, and aftermarket matter more than raw equipment volume.
