The company markets its vehicles primarily under the Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Baojun, and Wuling brand names. In addition, it sells trucks, crossovers, cars, and automobile parts through retail dealers, distributors and dealers, as well as to fleet customers, including daily rental car companies, commercial fleet customers, leasing companies, and governments. Further, the company offers various range of after-sale services through dealer network, such as maintenance, light repairs, collision repairs, vehicle accessories, and extended service warranties. Additionally, it provides automotive financing; and software-enabled services and subscriptions. General Motors Company was founded in 1908 and is based in Detroit, Michigan.

General Motors Company was founded in 1908 and is based in Detroit, Michigan. The company completed its IPO on November 18, 2010. Mary Barra has served as CEO since 2014 and additionally as chairman since 2016. The company has been highly active in share repurchases: in 2023 it signed a $10 billion ASR and immediately repurchased and retired 215 million shares, retiring a further 29 million shares in 2024; in 2025 the board raised the buyback authorization by $6 billion and executed a $2 billion ASR. More recently, GM merged its Cruise technology team into its GM technology team, shifting from a capital-heavy robotaxi route toward personal-vehicle ADAS.
