Historia

Toyota traces its origin to the loom business: in 1933 Toyota Automatic Loom Works set up an automobile division, and in 1937 Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. was established, with industrial engineer and family operator Toyoda Kiichiro at its core. After the 1949 Dodge Line tightening and a 1950 management crisis, the company split into Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. and Toyota Motor Sales Co., Ltd., which were merged back into Toyota Motor Corporation in 1982. The Crown became the first Japanese passenger car exported to the US in 1957, Lexus launched in the US in 1989, and the Prius arrived in 1997; later milestones include the Toyota Research Institute (2016) and the start of Woven City construction (2021).
