沿革

The Cooper Companies, Inc. was founded in 1958 and is headquartered in San Ramon, California, completing its IPO on December 30, 1983. The company operates through two segments, CooperVision (contact lenses) and CooperSurgical (women's health, fertility, and surgical products). Annual revenue grew from $2.9225 billion in FY2021 to $4.0924 billion in FY2025, and the company employs roughly 15,000 people. CooperSurgical has expanded substantially through acquisitions, including the purchase of certain Cook Medical assets for $300 million completed in November 2023 and obp Surgical for $100 million in August 2024. In December 2023 the board decided to discontinue the company's semi-annual dividend, and no dividends were paid in FY2024 or FY2025.

業界での地位

The Cooper Companies is a medical instruments and supplies company whose products reach more than 130 countries. In FY2025, the CooperVision segment generated $2.7438 billion of revenue (about 67% of the total) and the CooperSurgical segment $1.3486 billion (about 33%). In contact lenses, CooperVision competes directly with Johnson & Johnson Vision, Alcon, and Bausch + Lomb; in women's health and fertility, CooperSurgical competes with Vitrolife Group, Nexpring, and Fairfax Cryobank / EggBank, with device-level overlap against Johnson & Johnson, Baxter, Medtronic, and Hologic. The company's MiSight 1 day is disclosed as the first and only FDA-approved product shown to slow the progression of myopia in children, and it has also been approved in China and Japan. Sources of competitive advantage include repeat-purchase demand and the switching costs created once complex lenses are successfully fitted, brand and clinical trust, broad SKU and parameter coverage, silicone hydrogel manufacturing, global distribution channels, and medical-device regulatory approvals; no single customer accounted for more than 10% of revenue in 2023, 2024, or 2025.
